Family Guy

A great introduction into the world of Downhill Mountain Biking. Family Guy not only provides a thrilling descent on it's own but is also used to extend the length of SLF, Toothless and Billy Dog. This route is built along the west bank paralleling Moose Mountain Road and thanks to some great build techniques by MMBTS, it doesn't feel like constant side-hilling and provides an excellent flow for both downhill and x-country bikes.

To Get Here: From the 4 way stop on HWY 22 next to Bragg Creek, take HWY 22 south to a T intersection. Turn right (westbound) on HWY 66. Continue down HWY 66 for 16km to Moose Mountain Road. Moose Mountain Road will be your first right after Station Flats. Family Guy has several points of access but to enjoy the full trail, take Moose Mtn Road for 6.5km to the Jean Guy Parking area located on a flat area with a guard rail on the left hand side of the road .
Trail Description:

From the Jean Guy Parking Lot cruise down Moose Mountain Road for 300m. The trail entrance is on the right side marked with a wooden sign. A fast flowing descent takes you .9 km's alongside the road in a tight evergreen forest, crossing SLF and following Toothless for a few pedal strokes before Toothless drops off the right. Stay straight and continue paralleling the road through a variety of forest types with occasional open areas for another .9 kms, until you cross Billy Dog and start the final and longest uninterrupted section of the trail.  This portion of Family Guy is top shelf as it winds it's way through tight forests, wide open meadows with wildflowers and mountain views to the west. The final portion of the trail splits off the side hill and drops steeply into the valley  for 2.8km with a few sharp turns and wooden bridges crossing the smaller tributaries, until it hit's the valley floor at the Elbow Valley trail junction.

At the Elbow Valley Trail junction you have the option to turn right (west) and follow Elbow Valley Trail for 300m across Canyon Creek to Ing's Mine Parking. Be sure to use caution crossing Canyon Creek in the spring as flow rates can be quite high before dropping off to nothing later in the summer. Alternatively, if you parked at Moose Mtn Base Parking and want to return to your car, turn left (east) on Elbow Valley Trail and climb back up for one kilometer across the Moose Mountain Road to the Pneuma intersection. Turn right and drop 1.4 kms down Pneuma to Moose Mtn Base Parking.
