Alberta Guide to Sportfishing Regulations

The Alberta Guide to Sportfishing Regulations is published each year in late February by Sports Scene Publications Inc. You can order a copy of the guide by completing the online order form in the Fishing, Hunting and Trapping section of the ASRD website (click here).

The guide can also be downloaded and printed in the Portable Document Format (pdf) from the Alberta Regulations website.

Trout Streams of Alberta by Jim McLennan

Picture
Foreword by Gary Borger

A national best seller published in 1996, this book examines the fish species, types of streams and fly fishing methods for fly fishing in Alberta.  There is general fishing information for each major watershed, as well as a “Great Waters” section that focuses on a particular piece of water in greater detail.  The streams highlighted as Great Waters are the Crowsnest, Bow, North Raven, North Ram, Maligne, and Little Smoky Rivers.  Trout Streams of Alberta was winner of the Andy Russell Outdoor Writing Award in 1997.

Alberta's Trout Highway - Fishing the Forestry Trunk Road by Barry Mitchell

Picture
Barry Mitchell's book is one of the more common guidebooks to world class Trout Streams on the East Slopes of the Rockies. He covers Athabasca and the North Saskatchewan down to the Red Deer, Bow and Oldman drainages. There are also tips on everything from proper technique to fishing streams to trout dynamics and eating patterns.

Fishing These Parts by Guy Woods

A great guide by a local Cochrane fisherman. This book details much of the techniques required for fishing in the area as well as local fishing spots with maps, photos and drawings.
