With over 800 members, the Calgary section is one of the largest sections of the ACC.
The section offers mountaineering trips of all kinds, (backcountry
skiing, ice climbing, rock climbing, and alpine climbing). We also
subsidize weekend courses throughout the year covering the full range of
mountaineering skills. The Calgary section is very involved in regional
access and environment issues, primarily focussed on the Bow Valley,
the National Parks, and Kananaskis Country, and the section offers a
chance to meet other individuals with similar interests. To take advantage of the many outstanding activities and courses organized by Calgary Section volunteer committees, see here for more details.
With the Canadian Rockies at their back door, members of the Rocky Mountain Section participate in a wide range of activities all year round. Whether it's hiking, scrambling, rock climbing, mountaineering, ice climbing, cross-country ski or ski touring, the Alpine Club of Canada's Rocky Mountain Section has it all !
Free to join, and open to any adult in Canada, the COC brings people together in a fun, friendly and inviting atmosphere. We strive to offer a variety of events, with some things geared for beginners, some more challenging things, and lots of 'somewhere in the middle' stuff. And, we attempt to keep events as low-cost as possible. A majority of our events take place in the Calgary area, but occasionally we visit our neighboring provinces or travel further away from home.
Each month we have regular outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, biking, inline skating and canoeing (summer) and skiing, boarding, cross-country skiing and snow shoeing (winter), as well as social events, and "special" events such as white water rafting, caving, and dog sled tours.
CORE (Calgary Outdoor Recreation Enthusiasts) was formed in November 1999, primarily as a hiking club. Our activities now include: X-C skiing, snowshoeing, winter hiking, cycling, urban walking, occasional scrambling, camping, canoeing, tennis as well as social events. The club organizes scheduled meetings with presentations. We also run summer and winter weekend getaways. We are a smaller club with a range of age groups and skill levels. We all, however, share an enthusiasm for and love of the outdoors. We welcome new members
We are a diverse, friendly and inviting group of individuals that span a
wide range of ages; education; vocations; political, religious and
cultural backgrounds. But we share one thing in common. Our love, nay
passion, for the mountains! Calgary is our base of operations and the
Canadian Rockies is our playground. By using various combinations of our
feet and hands we ascend these mountain summits and ridges and are
rewarded with some of the finest views and scenery on the planet.
The focus of club events is on those activities and trips whose intent is to reach a mountain ridge or summit or is about learning and developing skills needed for such attempts. These activities range from Easy Scrambles to full on Mountaineering trips and expeditions. This includes such things as scrambling, climbing (sport and trad), alpinism, ice climbing, ski touring/ascents and other general mountaineering activities. _
Foothills Wanderers Orienteering Club is an active club of several hundred members in southern Alberta. We organise several programs of orienteering throughout the year. The club has been orienteering in the Calgary area for over 30 years.
