Hwy 66 - Bragg Creek to Forgetmenot Pond (Subalpine Paradise)
Hwy 66 is Bragg Creek's showcase ride. It begins in Bragg Creek and transforms from forested low lands to sub-alpine highlands. There are some large hills on this route. Bring water and energy.
32KM One Way A - Start out at the 4 way stop, next to Bragg Creek, on HWY 22. Take White Ave SW through town B - 4. 8km Arrive at a T intersection and turn right (Westbound) onto HWY 66 C - 12. 9km (B) Arrive at Allan Bill Pond Recreation area on your left D - 21. 3km (C) Arrive at Elbow Falls Recreation area on your left (Road closed at this point from Dec 1 - May 14, but you can often pass the gate and ride with no cars, snow permitting) E - 32. 0km (D) Arrive at Forgetmenot Pond Recreation area on your left
HWY 762 - Bragg Creek to Millarville (Rolling Foothills)
HWY 762 is a wandering path through the foothills. It's perfect for keeping your speed up, your heart pumping and your troubles behind you. If you like a relatively steady rhythm with a few ups and downs, you'll enjoy this route. There are many options available to extend this route, as well as create a loop.
36.5km One Way A - Start out at the 4 way stop, next to Bragg Creek, on HWY 22. Take HWY 22 to a T intersection B - 3.4km Turn Left (Eastbound) on HWY 22. Take HWY 22 for 300M C - 3.7km Turn Right (Southbound) on HWY 762 D - 14.5km Pass Township Road 220 E - 25.9km Turn Left (Eastbound) on AB 549 F - 36. 5km Arrive at Millarville
Highwood Pass - Longview to HWY1 (Kananaskis's Rooftop Highway)
Highwood Pass is the setting for the Granfrondo Race for a reason. It covers every landscape from prairie to the highest mountain pass in the Canadian Rockies along with a heart pumping workout. This highway is littered with stunning peaks and majestic
wildlife. Upper Kananaskis Lake is around the halfway point, providing
an amazing vista to stop and rest your legs. This route is closed from Dec 1 - June 15 between Hwy 40 and Highwood Junction. However, you can often ride this section void of cars from late May onward. Make sure you know the conditions or make plans to turn around as there can be heavy snowfalls throughout June. Also watch for snowplows and avalanche paths. Avalanches can pose a serious hazard in late spring.
148KM One Way A - Start at Longview, Alberta (Be sure to get some famous Beef Jerky for the ride from Longview). B - 43.5km Here you'll find a store and a pay phone to call someone if you suddenly realize that this is really going to hurt (Road closed at this point from Dec 1 - June 15 but you can often pass the gate in late spring, snow permitting) C - 81.2km Breath a sigh of relief as you top out on Highwood Pass at 2206m/7238ft D - 98.2km Arrive at the heart of Kananaskis. A short detour provides a view of Kananaskis Lakes, an ideal rest stop E - 125.1km Pass Nakiska Ski Resort F - 148km Arrive at Stoney Nakoda Casino.
