If you're not from the area, or you just want to spend the night staring at a star spangled sky, there are plenty of areas where you can pitch a tent or park your mansion on wheels. Most campsites are centered around trails for hiking, biking, snowmobiling, equestrian and more.

Backcountry Campgrounds - Get back to what camping used to be. Pitch a tent in the middle of the wilderness and enjoy dreams of furry fellas cuddling up with you. Kananaskis offers some of the most breathtaking camping spots in the world, but you have to work to get there. There are no roads to these sites, so save the bottles of wine for the car camping and eat lots of carbs or grab a horse and discover the wild west.
Bragg Creek Campgrounds - This area is one of the best mountain bike destinations in Kananaskis. There are multiple mountain bike trails criss-crossing the hills and taking you into alpine vistas. It also offers hiking, equestrian, OHV and snowmobile trails as well as caving. See a complete list of Campgrounds that are located down HWY 66, west of Bragg Creek in the Elbow Valley.
Canmore & Spray Lake Campgrounds - If you want to take advantage of the many festivals, events and amenities that Canmore offers but wake up surrounded by wilderness, take advantage of the many Campgrounds nearby. Canmore area holds many sites up and down the Trans Canada Highway and Spray Lakes. The Bow Valley has a large concentration of sport climbing crags as well as Alpine trad routes, if you're here to climb, this is the area for you. These sites provide great access to climbing, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, nordic, canoeing and kayaking opportunities.
Ghost Campgrounds - A jaw dropping amphitheater of smooth cliffs provides countless rock and ice climbing opportunities. Large multi-pitch routes and unique ice climbs encompass the area. Several hiking trails will let you get up on top of the amphitheater without a rope and there is some limited mountain biking as well as OHV, equestrian trails and fishing. This magical area is steeped in first nations history and you can easily drift back in time, reading some of the many tales about great battles that were fought.
Highway 40 Campgrounds - These campgrounds are located in the Heart of Kananaskis, and are normally busier than the other locations but for good reason. There are towering peaks either side of the highway with adventurous hiking and mountain bike trails, allowing you to gain access to some of the most pristine wilderness in the world. Skiing, fishing, paddling, hiking, fishing, riding and climbing opportunities surround you.
Highwood and Cataract Creek Campgrounds - Famous for its great snowmobiling, Cataract Creek really comes alive in the winter months. In the summer months, you can escape the crowds and enjoy excellent fishing, hiking and mountain biking as well as a few rock climbing crags.
Peter Lougheed Campgrounds - The Center of Kananaskis and a designated park void of industry. This area is the hub of Kananaskis with two large mountain lakes surrounded by eye-dropping mountains holding even more mountain lakes. Here you'll find big and small game wildlife, hiking trails, biking trails, stream and lake fishing, and even swimming if you dare to brave the cold water. There are lots of campgrounds in the park and peak season is busy!
Sheep River Campgrounds - Centered around the Sheep River, this area is a haven for white water paddlers, anglers and more. Most of the campgrounds are in the rolling foothills but a short trip to the west, will bring you into a cathedral of large alpine peaks. There are several hiking, biking and equestrian trails in this area.
Sibbald Campgrounds - Situated in the middle of the foothills, Sibbald Area consists of open meadows, gentle ridges and valleys full of elk, deer, bear, moose and birds. There are numerous equestrian and snowmobile as well as a handful of mountain bike and hiking trails located here. There are also several spots to spend the day fishing.
