Prairie Mountain

One of the most popular hikes in the valley and for obvious reasons. A steep and steady grade quickly brings you from the lush valley bottom and deposits you on top of a beautiful alpine meadow. A panoramic view, full of flowers and spectacular sights of both the prairies to the east, and the mountains to the west, with Moose Mountain dominating the foreground.

To Get Here: From the 4 way stop on HWY 22 next to Bragg Creek, take HWY 22 south to a T intersection. Turn right (westbound) on HWY 66 and travel 18.9 km down Hwy 66. Park at the Beaver Lodge parking located on the left hand side, just past Elbow Falls, and just before the Powderface Recreation Area.
Trail Description:

From the Beaver Lodge parking lot, cross the highway to the north side and hike back east along Elbow Valley Trail. Cross Prairie Creek, and take an immediate left fork that climbs the ridge rising up on the east side of Prairie Creek. As Prairie Creek veers west continue north along the ridge, at a steady strenuous pitch for almost 3 km. Nearing the summit, the steep grade lessens and the forest suddenly opens to reveal a grassy ridge with a full floral bouquet. Enjoy the easy walking and panoramic views all the way to the summit flag.
