Hostel Loop

A short loop centered on the grounds of one of the first youth hostels in Canada. Unfortunately the hostel burned to the ground in 1984, but the route still remains.

Picture
Trail Description: (clockwise) From Trailhead #5, climb up the side of a short hill and through dense forest until you reach the intersection of Telephone Loop and Hostel Loop. The loop can be done in both directions but most people prefer clockwise for a steep ascent and long meandering descent. Turn left and climb a short distance to Snowshoe Hare Junction. Turn right and continue past Demi-Tel on your left and straight through the second Telephone Loop intersection. Enjoy the Descent back down. Beautiful old growth aspen, pine and spruce forests line the trail. At the SE tip of the loop, near the Telephone Trail Junction, look for an open meadow on the outside of the loop. This meadow holds what's left of the foundation of the Youth Hostel. A quick detour onto Snowshoe Hare Loop will take you through this meadow and past the foundation. Upon reaching the south Telephone Loop junction, turn left and enjoy a short descent back into the parking lot.
